
Biography
Mauro Barbierato was born in 1984 in Padua, Italy. After completing his secondary education, he initially studied organ and organ composition with Prof. L. Medici Turrini at the Conservatorio “C. Pollini” in Padua, where he graduated with a diploma. He then continued his musical education at the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan, studying choral conducting, musical palaeography (with Prof. G. Acciai), and basso continuo (with Prof. C. Farina).
His further artistic training led him to Germany, where he completed a Bachelor’s degree in conducting with both artistic and pedagogical emphasis at the Mannheim University of Music. He subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting and completed the postgraduate Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik Saar, studying with Prof. Georg Grün.
During his studies, Mauro Barbierato gained extensive experience in music theatre. At the Opera Studio of the Mannheim University of Music, he worked as a musical assistant to Prof. Cosima Osthoff and as a répétiteur. In 2012, he served as musical director for the opera Echt? at the Schnawwl Theatre in Mannheim, followed by Sturm at the National Theatre Mannheim in the 2014/15 season. In 2019, he conducted Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Ettlingen Castle Festival.
Today, his professional focus lies in the field of opera and music theatre. Mauro Barbierato is Chorus Director at the Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken. In addition, he serves as Musical Director of the Saarland Youth Choir (LandesJugendChor Saar).
Alongside his artistic work, he is active in higher education. At the Hochschule für Musik Saar, he teaches choral conducting, score reading at the piano, vocal ensemble, and the course Practice-Oriented Italian Vocal Diction.
Mauro Barbierato is also engaged in international and institutional work. He is a member of the Competition Committee of the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf. In addition to his professional activities, he is actively involved in choral associations, serving on the board of the Saarland Choral Association, where he also works as association choir conductor.
